Larry Plummer Law is a school law and criminal defense law firm that represents individuals and consults for school districts. Larry Plummer Law LLC is a law office set up in a virtual mode and operates pursuant to R. 1:21-1(a)(1) and complies with the provisions of R. 1:21-1B.
The firm was started several decades ago and is dedicated to the relentless desire of its founder and president, Larry Plummer, to advance the interests of justice, fairness, and equity for its clients.
Engaged in substitute teaching during law school, Larry was presented with issues of concern that exist in the public schools as they relate to student and parent rights. While in law school, Larry participated in the Juvenile Justice Clinic, sponsored by the New Jersey State Office of the Public Defender, and was the student director of the clinic for the last 3 semesters of his law school career. This initiation presented him with the vulnerability of juveniles, students, and all young people and gave him a calling to pursue in that arena.
Larry Plummer Law is a virtual law firm, which essentially defines the structure of our office. We engage in consultations, interviews, and other contacts with clients through the use of a virtual platform via video conferencing. Those interested in a face-to-face consultation can set up a video conference by contacting the office by telephone. This is primarily for the convenience of our clients and the efficient provision of representation. We generally bill legal fees on an hourly basis or as a one-time billing. We are also amenable to contingency fee arrangements.
Payment can be made by credit or debit card, eCheck, regular check, money order, or other agreed-upon means. There are certain things that must be handled in person, on a face-to-face basis. Our Edison offices are available for that purpose. The majority of our practice is remote, and the service we provide is appropriate for that model.
We interface with other attorneys, firms, investigators, and other legal professionals and those in other fields to provide first-rate service to our clients.
Larry Plummer is a legal professional who has been in practice for 34 years and is a member of the New Jersey Bar. He has represented hundreds of individuals during his term as an Assistant Deputy Public Defender and during his private practice. Although initially representing criminal defendants in both the trial and appellate offices of the New Jersey Public Defender’s Office, his movement into private practice had him engaging in the general practice of law. Having left the public defender’s office in 1988 after 5 years and entering private practice, he was a full-time practitioner until 1997, when he accepted a position as a full-time teacher, fulfilling one of his consistent desires. He then reduced his private practice to part-time status.
During his tenure as a teacher, vice principal, and principal in local public schools, he recognized the vast array of legal issues that arise as a result of the state’s requirement to provide thorough and efficient educational opportunities to its citizens. He found that his part-time practice began to reduce its emphasis from a general practice to one devoted largely to school law matters, including student and teacher rights, discipline, harassment, intimidation, bullying, and an assortment of other issues involving the public education system. He continued his criminal practice.
After 26 years as an educator, Larry retired from the public schools but continued to be sought out for legal representation by parents, students, teachers, administrators, and local stakeholders who had an interest in the workings of public schools.
In 1977, Larry earned his Bachelor of Arts in English/Secondary Education from Fairleigh Dickinson University and was named to the Dean’s List in his last 2 semesters. He earned his Juris Doctor from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1983. He returned to school to enhance his knowledge of pedagogy and, in 2004, earned a Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration and Supervision and, in 2012, a Doctorate in Education in Urban Educational Leadership, both from Kean University. He has written and published on the issue of discrimination against public school personnel and is on the School Law Committee of the New Jersey Bar Association.
Larry loves sports, especially football. He is active in his local community and very interested in the workings of his local homeowner’s association. He is very interested in the plight of veterans, as he is a retired lieutenant colonel, having served for 22 years in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps of the United States Army Reserves.
